Home Monitoring for the Device Era
March 6, 2017
In a device-centric world, effectively monitoring a home does not always require traditional technologies like cameras and motion detectors. It is time to start thinking about easier, more passive ways to achieve peace of mind as a homeowner. Mobile devices like phones and wearables give off signals that allow a Range Hub to detect and recognize them when they enter a home- letting you know who is home and when.

It is increasingly unlikely that the average American will leave his or her home without at least one mobile device. Smartphones, and to a lesser extent wearables (like the Apple Watch, Fitbit, and item-finders like Tile) are with us wherever we go. Range uses the signals from these devices to create a virtual 360-degree view of your home's activity. Range keeps a timeline of comings and goings and lets you set up notifications for any activity you think is important.
-Receive notifications about the devices you care about, like a teen's smart phone coming home past curfew
-Attach a Range tag or other Bluetooth key-finder to virtually any object to start monitoring its activity. Put one in your child's backpack to get an alert when they get home from school or attach one to your dog's leash to keep track of walks.
Range distinguishes between the devices you and your family owns (known devices) and devices that have never been in your home before (unknown devices). You can set up alerts to notify you to the presence of unknown devices or use Range to look out for certain patterns. Anyone who goes out of town frequently or hosts on home sharing sites like Airbnb can get passive insight into what is going on in their home, even getting a "Party Alert" when Range senses more than a certain number of unknown devices.
Range may not be a total home security solution but if you are looking for a way to get insight into the activity of your home without the cost or setup of traditional technologies, Range may be the solution for you.

Range is launching soon on Kickstarter. Subscribe or follow to get updates.
